An uneventful loop of the patch was followed by a visit to nearby Abbotscliff, the Folkestone Warren and along the cliff bottoms to dead man’s pool.

A very still day with constant mizzle was only really highlighted by a lovely Siberian Chiffchaff at the warren.

Calling occasionally “eiiipe” and showing down to a few meters, bizarrely this is my first in Kent since moving.

A tame winter plumaged Knot was feeding on the sea defences, another species I don’t see up close around here.

I walked the entire length of the beach and under-cliff from copt point almost to Samphire hoe in search of a rare wheatear but none could be found. 3 Black redstart and about 15 Stonechat were best here.
